The House of Faberge created the first of the famous eggs under the command of the czars. However, the czars were exterminated in the 1918 Russian Revolution, and with them went any claim to the rights.
The Faberge brand resurfaced in 1950, bought from Eugene and Alexander Faberge by U.S. businessman Sam Rubin. The trademarks were later bought by Unilever in 1988, and again by Pallinghurst Resources in 2006.
Pallinghurst invested $450 million in the brand to create Faberge Ltd., a Cayman Islands company that creates luxury items with the Faberge name. This new company holds the rights to the brand that dates back to 19th century Russia.
