How to Create a Face in an Oak Tree

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a face for inspiration. You will be crafting two eyes, a nose and a mouth for your oak tree, so ensure that you have enough clay to make them big enough for the tree.

    • 2

Work the clay until it is soft and malleable. Roll two balls of clay that are the same size. These will be your eye sockets. Place the ball into the palm of one hand and press down in the center of it with your thumb.

    • 3

Roll two sausages of clay for the eyebrows. Flatten them and use your fingernail or the toothpick to create a texture that looks like hair. place the eyebrows on the top of the eye sockets and squeeze the two pieces of clay together.

    • 4

Roll two balls of a different color clay and press them into the eye sockets. These are your eyeballs. Use the toothpick to make a small hole in the middle of each eyeball.

    • 5

Use another piece of clay to mold a nose. Use the toothpick to make holes for the nostrils. Mold a mouth. You can add a tongue or teeth in different colors if you wish.

    • 6

Make a wire hook by bending the wire with the pliers. Bend the wire into a 'U' shape. The wire hook should be big enough to hold the face piece, but small enough to be hidden from view. Press the wire hook into the clay at the back of each face piece.

    • 7

Bake the clay in the oven according to the instructions on the package. Hang the two eyes, nose and mouth on your favorite oak tree.
