Who invented the Hi-hat?

There seems to be some debate over the inventor of Hi-hats. An English musician named John "Bunny" Berigan added a hi-hat stand to his own trap kit in 1930. Other names that pop up in conversations about the inventor are William F Ludwig and William F Lomell, who is an American drummer, and band leader.
