- Open the hood of the car.
- Locate the engine oil dipstick tube. It is typically located on the side of the engine block, near the top.
-The dipstick tube may have a yellow or orange cap.
2. Pull Out the Dipstick
- Grasp the dipstick handle and pull it out of the tube.
-The dipstick should have two marks on it: a "full" mark and an "add" mark.
3. Check the Oil Level
- Wipe the dipstick clean with a rag.
- Reinsert the dipstick into the tube.
- Pull the dipstick out again and check the oil level.
- The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks.
4. Add Oil if Needed
- If the oil level is below the "add" mark, you need to add oil.
- Use a funnel to add oil slowly to the engine.
- Check the oil level again after you have added oil.
- Do not overfill the engine with oil.
5. Replace the Dipstick
- Once the oil level is correct, replace the dipstick.
- Ensure the dipstick is securely inserted into the tube.
