What qualities does the audience immediately see in Oedipus
In the beginning of the play, Oedipus appears to be a wise and just ruler who cares for his people. He has recently lifted a curse from Thebes by solving a riddle posed by the Sphinx, and he is loved by his people for bringing back peace and prosperity to the city. He values traditional religious beliefs and honours the gods.
Oedipus demonstrates intelligence, problem solving skills, and concern for the welfare of his subjects. He is proactive in attempting to solve the plague afflicting Thebes, and willing to do whatever it takes to restore order and justice
