What is the average salary of an artist?

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for artists in May 2021 was $63,760. The lowest 10% of earners made less than $28,760, and the highest 10% of earners made more than $126,230.

Salaries for artists can vary significantly depending on a number of factors, including experience, education, location, and type of art produced. For example, experienced artists with advanced degrees and established reputations may earn significantly more than those just starting out in their careers. Artists who live in major metropolitan areas may also earn more than those who live in rural areas.

In addition to salaries, artists may also earn income from commissions, sales of artwork, and other sources. Some artists also teach or work as art therapists.

The job outlook for artists is expected to grow by 1% from 2021 to 2031, slower than the average for all occupations. This growth is expected to be driven by an increasing demand for art in a variety of settings, including healthcare, education, and the hospitality industry.
