Put on a pair of rubber gloves and disconnect the power cord from both the power source and the tattoo gun.
Unscrew the tube clamp by hand. Consult the diagram in the Resources section to identify the tube clamp and other tattoo gun components.
Slide the back end of the needle off the grommet at its base. Pull the entire grip, tube and needle assembly toward the front of the gun to remove it.
Slide the needle out of the back end of the tube and deposit it in a receptacle designed to hold used tattoo needles.
Pull the grip toward the back of the tube assembly until it comes all the way off. If you are only disassembling your tattoo gun to clean it, this is the last step. The grip, tube and tip are now ready for sterilization in an autoclave machine, and the rest of the gun assembly can simply be wiped down with an antibacterial solution. If you want to take apart the rest of the gun, continue to the next step.
Use a flat-head screwdriver to unscrew the front binding post and remove it completely. Pull out the contact screw and set it aside.
Unscrew the rear binding post with the screwdriver and set it aside.
Unscrew the small spring assembly that attaches the back of the armature bar to the frame. When this piece is removed, all the remaining parts will become detached. This includes the rear spring assembly, the armature bar, the coil assembly and the frame.
