Paintshop Line Art Tutorial

The graphic program Paint Shop Pro has many abilities, one of which is the ability to take a photograph and turn it into a line sketch or drawing.
  1. Choosing a Picture

    • This technique works best with high-quality color photographs, especially if you wish to use the overlay blend option to bring some color back into the picture after it has been turned into a line drawing. This technique does not appear to work with all pictures, for instance black-and-white photos and highly pixelated images taken from the Internet.

    Choosing a Technique

    • Paint Shop has two different options for achieving a line art look from a photograph.

The first is the "Effect, Art Effects." This option lets you choose pencil, color pencil, charcoal and even paint. This option requires more time and playing with settings to achieve the look you desire, however, it gives you more choices on the final outcome of the look of your image.

The second option is less direct and much faster. By using the "adjust, hue saturation, black and white," "adjust, negative," "adjust, blur" and "blend" modes to create a line sketch of an image, you can create a very clean line sketch from an image that needs little to no editing. And this technique allows for the addition of a bit of color back into the end image.
