How to Hide Belly Button Piercings in Cheerleading

Cheerleaders with navel piercings may find that their coach or captain forbids wearing body jewelry while cheering. If your navel piercing is not yet healed, you should wear a small skin-colored bandage to hide it rather than removing or changing the jewelry. However, if your piercing is healed, you can remove your jewelry and insert a clear glass or acrylic retainer. Retainers will be invisible to anyone sitting in the stands, allowing you to hide your bellybutton piercing while cheerleading.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands with antibacterial soap, rinse them, then lather them again and wash your piercing. Dry your skin with an unused towel or paper towel.

    • 2

Grasp the top and bottom beads of the curved barbell in your navel. Hold the bottom bead still while you twist the top bead to the left. When the top bead comes loose, pull downward on the bottom bead to remove the jewelry. Screw the top bead back on and set your jewelry aside.

    • 3

Roll the rubber O-ring off the retainer and dip the pointed end in a drop of antibacterial soap to lubricate it.

    • 4

Pull the flap of skin at the top of your navel away from your body slightly, so the top hole of the piercing stretches out. Insert the lubricated end of the retainer into the top hole and push down until it comes through the bottom hole.

    • 5

Wipe away any excess soap. Roll the O-ring onto the bottom of the jewelry and push it up until it touches the bottom hole of your piercing. The ring will hold the retainer in place while you cheer.
