How to Design Your Own Magnet Calendar

A magnet calendar can be a gift, a promotional item for a business or just something practical that you create and put on your fridge. Printing a few calendars with a promotions supplier can be pricey, but using image editing software such as GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop or Photopaint will make creating the calendar easy to do from home. You can even use your own photos to print on inkjet magnetic sheets that can be purchased from online stores or from office supply stores.

Instructions

    • 1

Open your image editing program. Select the "Create a New Image" option under "File." Click on "Image" and select "Image Size" to set the size for your calendar.

    • 2

Select "New Layer" in the same window. Use the pen or paint tool located under "Tools" and draw a grid. Make the grid 7 rows by 7 columns.

    • 3

Use the text tool to write the days of the week above each column. Click on "Edit" and select "Merge" to combine your text and image layers.

    • 4

Click on "Copy" under the "Edit" menu and copy the grid 12 times---for each month of the year. Arrange the grid so that each of the 12 copies lines up in four columns and three rows. Leave a space above each grid for a photo or drawing.

    • 5

Select the text tool and write the name of each month above each grid. Number your grids so each month corresponds to its numerical place on the calendar. Add the year of the calendar at the very top or below your main photo, or add it somewhere in your photo in a text box by dragging down the text tool across the image.

    • 6

Add clip art, text or photos on a new layer by clicking on "New Layer" under the "File" menu.

    • 7

Load regular paper into your printer tray. Click on "Print" under the "File" menu to test your design. Examine the color quality and make color adjustments in the image editing software if necessary.

    • 8

Click on "Color" under "Tools" and select the pointer on the tool bar. Slide your pointer onto the color pallet that appears on your computer screen. Click on the color you want and then click on the color you want to change. All shades of the color you want to change will adjust to the color you chose on the pallet.

    • 9

Load a magnetic sheet into the printer and click on "Print" under the "File" menu. Let the sheet completely dry before you handle it. Continue to print the rest of your pages.

    • 10

Cut out the days and months from a regular calendar. Glue them onto the bottom of your printed sheets.
