How to Make Engraved Markers

Adding an engraving to any object can give it a personal touch or add a unique flair. Engraving a marker or even a set of markers ensures that everyone knows who owns the markers. The markers can also be engraved and given as a gift. In all situations, the steps for engraving markers are easy, but will require some practice. Set aside a few hours to practice before you jump into this project.

Instructions

    • 1

Examine the marker. Determine the type of material from which it is made.

    • 2

Practice on some scrap plastic or scrap metal, depending on the marker. If your marker is metal, then find scrap metal. If your marker is plastic, then use scrap plastic.

    • 3

Clamp your scrap material to your work bench by using one or two C-clamps. Put on your protective goggles before you begin your work.

    • 4

Power on your engraving pen. Practice with different strokes and depths on your scrap material.

    • 5

Choose the spot on the marker that you would like to engrave when you feel comfortable with your practice runs.

    • 6

Use a pencil to gently sketch the engraving that you would like to complete.

    • 7

Fold a piece of cloth around the top and bottom ends of the marker. This helps to protect it when you use the C-clamp.

    • 8

Clamp the top and bottom ends of the marker to your work bench or table. Power on your engraving pen.

    • 9

Slowly and carefully engrave the picture or letter that you would like to appear on the marker.
