How to Render Using a Prismacolor Marker

Using a Prismacolor marker is an art form in itself. Shading and adding textures to artwork can be challenging when using high quality professional markers; they often bleed out of the desired application area. Prismacolor markers create a difference in the texture and flow of the ink, as opposed to other markers. Successful rendering takes practice to get the look you desire. As important as the marker selection is the paper choice. Make sure the paper you choose is compatible with marker applications.

Instructions

Blend two colors together using a blending marker. The blending marker contains a clear liquid that can cause a merging between colors. The blending marker contains the base liquid for the colored markers. This can blur lines and lighten the color of base inks.

Blend colors while they are wet. Wet markers blend into each other like watercolors do. The blending of colors is easier to achieve when the colors are still wet. When blending colors make sure the markers you use are the same brand. The chemicals will work together because they are the same.

Layer colors to build texture or color variations. To do this, apply a smooth even layer of your base color. Let the marker dry slightly and add another layer of shading with the same marker. The second application of color will be a shade darker than the base color. You can add highlights later with a white colored pencil.

Practice and experiment with the markers, learning how the colors flow, blend and layer before using them on your final project.
