Located in downtown Bellingham, Bellingham Art offers an array of non-degree art classes for children and adults. Classes range from basic introductions to arts and media to advanced classes in the use of pastels and oil painting. In addition to weekly one-hour classes, Bellingham Art offers an eight-week summer animation camp where students learn classical animation techniques, study movement and expressions and learn how to create cartoon cells and backgrounds. Workshops are also held in which students sketch their interpretations of live models.
The Western Washington University College of Fine and Performing Arts offers an array of arts programs that range from painting and music to theater and dance. Course work consists of the history of art and design in addition to practical instruction in the artist's chosen discipline. Students participate in an assortment of lectures, classes and workshops that offer critical analysis of their work in addition to the opportunity to submit their work for public display. Bachelor of Arts degrees in design, art history and art studio are available as are Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in art studio and design.
Located in Bellingham's downtown art district, Trish Harding School of Art offers a variety of casual art classes for students of all skill levels. Courses range from perspective workshops in which students can obtain guidance in establishing their artistic points of view to painting classes that enable beginners to establish horizontal lines and become skilled in the use of tools such as vanishing points. All courses are non-degree and are geared toward personal artistic development.
Located just 12 miles from the heart of Bellingham, MOMA (Mommy and Me Art) is a relaxed arts program geared toward the arts education of young children and their parents. The program expresses the importance of art in our everyday society and focuses more on the creation of art than it does the final product. Directed by artist Jess Simmons, Mommy and Me Art is designed to help children develop a lifelong love of the arts. Courses are available in six-week sessions, and snacks are provided.
