The students draw an elephant on Bristol board with a pencil. Have them cut out the elephant with a pair of scissors and decorate the elephant by gluing on different colored tissue paper to the elephant using paper glue
The students can use the bottom of a paper bag as the base of their elephant's face. They can cut out eyes, nose and ears from construction paper and glue them onto the paper bag. They can also use markers and paint to color and decorate their elephant. When they are finished, they can slip their hand into the bag and use the elephant like a puppet.
Cut out three large circles from gray construction paper, for the ears and head, and two smaller pink circles for the insides of the ears and two smaller white circles for the eyes. Glue the two pink circles on the larger circles and the head on top of the inside of both ears. Glue the eyes in place and dot them with a black marker. Cut out a skinny gray rectangle for the trunk and glue it onto the head, just below the eyes. The students can use other circles to build the rest of the elephant in this way.
Students paint a toilet paper roll gray using tempura or acrylic paint. They draw the head and front legs of the elephant on a piece of gray construction paper and cut them out and paste them onto the roll using paper glue. Students can draw the back legs onto the bottom part of the roll.
