Tattooing Transfer Paper Tutorial

Whether you are giving yourself a henna tattoo or considering becoming a trained tattoo artist, applying temporary designs using transfer paper is a necessary skill. Transfer paper allows you to trace words, images or designs from the paper directly onto the skin, ensuring a perfect copy of what you already drew or printed out. It gives you the opportunity to experiment with different sizes and placements for tattoos before tattooing the image --- knowing how to use transfer paper is a vital skill for any artist.

Instructions

    • 1

Lay your transfer paper on a flat surface with the dark-ink side facing up.

    • 2

Print an image from your computer or draw one on a piece of regular paper.

    • 3

Place this piece of paper on top of the transfer paper, with the image facing up.

    • 4

Trace the image with either a pen or a pencil. Tracing transfers the carbon from the transfer paper to the back of the drawing.

    • 5

Flip your drawing over to make sure that the carbon completely transferred.

    • 6

Rub a clear deodorant stick over the area of skin where you want to transfer the image.

    • 7

Press the paper, carbon-side down, onto this area of your skin. When you peel it off, the design is temporarily transferred to your skin, allowing you to trace over it with either henna or a tattoo gun.
