How to Use White Transfer Paper

Transfer paper is an easy way to transfer images to different surfaces. White transfer paper works best when transferring an image onto a dark surface; conversely, black transfer paper works best when transferring an image onto a light surface. Working similarly to a carbon paper transfer, it creates light, clean tracings that can be erased easily. Transfer paper is inexpensive and each piece can be cut down to size and used repeatedly. Besides paper and canvas, it can also transfer images onto surfaces like glass, wood and ceramic.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a plain, dark sheet of paper or canvas on a table. Place the white transfer paper on top of it, with its waxy side down. Place the paper with the original image face up on top of the transfer paper.

    • 2

Secure the papers to the table with masking tape to ensure they do not move.

    • 3

Using a pencil or stylus, outline the subject while applying a medium pressure. Carefully lift the corners of the top two sheets to look at the transferred image and assess if the entire image has been transferred.

    • 4

Remove the transfer paper and original image from the dark sheet of paper.
