Paw Print Tattoo Options

All tattoos should have a level of meaning and significance to the person wearing them. A particular design that portrays an affinity for animals can be a single paw print or several of almost any kind of animal. Traditional tattoos are done in black and gray, especially paw prints to simulate an ink print, but you can use color if you wish. As with any tattoo, you should take time to consider every detail of the image as well as its appropriate position on your body.
  1. Household Animal

    • If you own a cat, dog or other household pet, such as a hamster or ferret, you should consider tattooing the print of their paw. There are several non-toxic inks that you can smear on your pet's paw and then press against a piece of paper to transfer the image. A tattoo artist can then design a tattoo stencil based on that image and transfer it onto your body. If you have multiple pets, you may consider tattooing a single paw print from each of them.

    Power Animals

    • Power animals are those with traits that you respect or relate to. They are generally animals that are not considered household pets, such as a bear or lion. It may be difficult to obtain the specific paw print of a particular power animal since most are wild and dangerous, so consider tattooing a generic version of the paw print to display the same symbolism but without the danger. You can find generic paw print images online or in tattoo art books.

    Human Animals

    • Most birth certificates have a child's foot and hand print. If you are a parent, either new or otherwise, you should consider tattooing the "paw" print of your own child. You can copy the image of the print onto another piece of paper or allow your artist to use the image on the actual birth certificate to make the tattoo stencil. If you have more than one child, consider either a foot or hand print from each one with a small caption of their names under each print.

    Extinct Paws

    • If you are an avid lover of certain extinct animals, such as dinosaurs, saber tooth tigers or even dodo birds, you can find the image of their specific paw print either online or in a book and have it tattooed. You can even tattoo paw prints symbolizing the evolution of man, starting with the image of a monkey's paw and altering it to appear more and more human until ending with the print of your own foot.
