Things That Are Black & Yellow

The black and yellow color combination is found in both fashion and natural habitats. The bright, attention-grabbing hue of yellow is accentuated by the darkness of black. Commonly, black and yellow combinations use a striped pattern. A very popular city has adopted this color scheme for all of its sports franchises. Additionally, a variety of creatures in the wild are naturally black and yellow.
  1. Bee

    • A bee is a flying insect with nearly 20,000 known species. The insect is critical to the pollination of flowering plants and the production of both honey and beeswax. Bees are indigenous to every continent on Earth besides Antarctica, wherever there are insect-pollinated flowering plants. The majority of bee species, such as the bumblebee, European honey bee and the solitary bee, are known for their distinctive black and yellow striped abdomens.

    School Bus

    • A school bus is designed specifically to transport students to and from school. The bus usually travels to several neighborhoods within the school's district or zone to pick up students. Depending on the model, the school bus can hold up between a few passengers to almost 100. Safety standards require the school bus to be painted yellow. The bus includes black horizontal stripes and lettering, in addition to black windows and rims.

    Pittsburgh Sport Franchise Uniforms

    • Pittsburgh's professional sports franchises all have black and yellow patterns and designs, as of 2011. The National Football League's Pittsburgh Steelers' uniform features black jerseys with yellow stripes, and yellow pants with black stripes. The National Hockey League's Pittsburgh Penguins feature an all-black home uniform with yellow stripes along the sides. The Pittsburgh Pirates from Major League Baseball also utilize the black, yellow and white color scheme for their logo and uniform.

    Black and Yellow Rockfish

    • Black and yellow rockfish are a specialized type of fish that are found in the Western United States. The fish are bottom dwellers that usually live in waters less than 60 feet, taking up residence in kelp beds and rocky reefs. The rockfish is mostly black with yellow blotches throughout. Gopher rockfish are closely related, and may have pink and white blotches in addition to the black and yellow coloration.
