How to Customize a Script Name Tattoo

Script name tattoos are often very personal, and for this reason you may consider designing the font yourself. If you are tattooing your last name, you might want to ask your oldest living relative with the same last name to design it. Or if you are paying homage to a spouse or child, consider tattooing their exact signature. The size of the letters and length of the name will dictate the appropriate placement for the tattoo, and though traditional tattoos are done in black and gray shades, you can choose to incorporate color if you wish.

Instructions

    • 1

Write the desired name on the piece of paper using the pencil. If you are having another person write the name, they will do this step, but you can do the rest. Keep in mind, several attempts may be necessary until you have the perfect rendering of the name.

    • 2

Trace the pencil lines with your black marker once you have the ideal rendering of the name.

    • 3

Flip the paper over and trace the image with the black marker on the other side as well, since it is the mirror image of the name that will be copied onto tracing paper and tattooed, so as to read frontwards after applied.

    • 4

Take the finished name to your tattoo artist and allow him or her to professionally copy the reverse image onto tracing paper and apply to your body.
