Kid Activities for Iron-on Crayon Fabric

Iron-on crayon fabric is an entertaining arts and crafts material, especially for children. Create designs on the material with crayon, then iron it on to other surfaces. It is an enjoyable process, and a distinct way to customize personal items, making them stand out in a crowd. There are a variety of kids' activities using iron-on crayon fabric.
  1. Custom Clothing

    • Old and new clothing can be customized using iron-on crayon fabric. Find an old jacket, T-shirt or hat, or purchase a new items with blank surfaces. Clean the clothes thoroughly, washing them in a washing machine or by hand. Place the iron-on fabric face up on the surface. Slowly run an iron over it on a medium setting for two minutes. Custom clothing ideas include putting your name on the sleeve of a jacket, or a drawing on the front of a T-shirt.

    Wall Hanging

    • Have kids create personalized wall hangings to display in their bedrooms. Draw the design onto the crayon fabric. Kids can include their names and draw images that represent their favorite things, such as a soccer ball or a pizza. Find a large piece of fabric or blanket; cotton will adhere best to the designs. Place the fabric designs over top of the blanket in a decorative manner, such as overlapping as a collage or in a grid pattern. Iron the images in place, and hang the blanket up on a wall for display. This can also be created on a smaller scale and framed.

    Custom Bag

    • Cotton bags are quite useful for kids, as they often use them to carry school supplies and materials for extra curricular activities. Kids can customize their bags with iron-on crayon fabric. Create a design for the bag, perhaps with the child's initials or a character from her favorite book. Find a plain cotton bag, available at arts and crafts stores, and iron the design onto the surface. Apply designs to several areas of the bag so it can be admired from all angles and sides.

    Pencil Case

    • As kids go to school and use of pencil cases, personalizing the cases is a smart idea. This makes it easier to find and helps kids get excited about creativity and learning. Purchase a cotton pencil case. Wipe it with a damp paper towel, and allow it to dry. Have the child write his name and draw designs on a piece of crayon fabric, then iron it to the pencil case.
