How to Insert a Labret Post Earring

Labret studs are a type of body piercing jewelry traditionally worn in oral piercings. The piercing for which the jewelry got its name goes through the center of the lower lip. A labret stud is a barbell with a bead on one end and a flat back on the other. The back, which looks like a small disc, screws into a hollow bar. Labret studs can also be worn through the earlobe in place of earrings.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your hands and your earlobes with antibacterial soap. Use a paper towel or freshly washed cloth towel to dry them.

    • 2

Unscrew the bead from the front of the labret stud by turning it to the left. Leave the flat back on if it is already attached, or screw it into the post by turning it to the right until it is tight.

    • 3

Dip the front end of the labret post into a drop of antibacterial soap to lubricate it.

    • 4

Pull downward on your earlobe to stretch the hole, making it easier to insert the labret post.

    • 5

Insert the labret post through your ear from the back. Let go of your earlobe.

    • 6

Push the flat disc up against the back of your earlobe with the thumb of your non-dominant hand. This will cause the front of the post to stick out through the front of your earlobe.

    • 7

Keep your thumb on the flat disc while using your index finger to push backward on the front of your earlobe. Pinching your earlobe in this way allows you to hold the post steady while you screw in the bead.

    • 8

Insert the threads of the bead into the front of the hollow post. Tighten the bead by turning it to the right.
