Cornucopia Projects

When Thanksgiving rolls around, you may be in search of cornucopia art projects to introduce to your art or elementary school classroom. For those not working in the educational domain, engaging in cornucopia crafts can still provide a way to spend your time creating decorative pieces for your Thanksgiving set-up.
  1. Paper Craft

    • Print out a cornucopia template from DLTK Kids. Instruct the little ones to color the various parts, and cut them out -- with assistance if necessary. Glue the cornucopia opening onto the horn. Allow children to position the pumpkin, acorn, pear and apple into the opening as they please. They can glue the leaves around the cornucopia and create more leaves out of construction paper to make a festive look.

    3D Cornucopia for Kids

    • Children can construct a centerpiece for their Thanksgiving table. Fold the open edges of a paper bag approximately one inch, and crush the bottom into a small and soft point. Next, bend the bag into a cornucopia shape. Instruct children to draw and cut out pictures of fruits, vegetables and other things to go inside. Punch holes in the tops of each picture. String ribbon or yarn through the holes and glue the ends into the cornucopia.

    Sugar Cone Cornucopia

    • Purchase enough sugar cones for each guest at your celebration. Tie a ribbon around each sugar cone and write the name of the guest on the side of the cone, using decorator's icing. Fill the cornucopia with candies -- ones that look like pieces of fruit or candy corn will help to create an authentic feel. Use these sugar cone cornucopias as either place cards for your guests or as favors to take home at the end of the day.

    Wicker Craft

    • Purchase a wicker cornucopia from a local craft store, and spray paint it in gold. Buy ready-made pieces of fake fruit from the same shop, or decorate Styrofoam balls to your liking. Use wire to string the pieces together or a hot glue gun to make them stick inside the cornucopia. Fill in the empty spaces with baby's breath or other small hints of fall foliage and flora.
