Create mosaic flower pots as a class art project for your school auction. Mosaics can be made from buttons, pieces of broken pottery and ceramic, along with other small pieces of material. These mosaic pots are easy to do, and you do not need artistic ability to make one that will sell well in an auction.
The clay flower pots, the mosaic grouting and the mosaic pieces are all inexpensive materials to buy. You can even send a list home with the students asking the parents to send in certain items to be used as the mosaic pieces.
Use all different size clay pots, and you can auction off the larger ones in pairs and the smaller ones in groupings. The people attending your auction will be bidding on pieces of art because they are appealing and useful and not just because it is for the benefit of the school.
Fabric Christmas ornaments are simple items to make and require only three inexpensive materials to put together: Styrofoam balls, odd pieces of fabric and string.
Push the small pieces of fabric into the Styrofoam balls with a butter knife. It is done around the entire ball in a weaving pattern. Push a string of silver or gold also into the Styrofoam to use for hanging. These ornaments look professional and can be made for all different style décor depending on the fabric you use.
Auction the ornaments in groupings of six to give the people at your function a set to bid on. These ornaments are fool proof and will look professional even when made by younger children.
Divide the class into groups of four or five and have each group make a piñata for the school auction. With balloons, coat hangers, newspapers along with the flour and water paste, you can make different themed piñatas.
Paint the piñatas bright and cheery colors and fill them with different items you ask the class to bring in. If each child brings in a $1 object to put in their piñata creation, you will have a project that costs very little to do. One piñata can hold votive candles as a theme. Another could hold small kitchen utensils, such as a spatula, chip clip, wooden spoons and even pot holders. Be creative and economy minded when filling your piñatas.
