Understanding of basic twists will give you thousands of ways to create a balloon sculpture. Each time you twist a balloon, always turn it 3 or 4 rotations to ensure it holds.
Take the 5-6 inch bubble and fold it in half. Twist it a couple of times together. Next, take the shorter 1.5-inch bubble, pressing it between the folded bubble. Now gently pull it forward; this is a loop twist.
Separate sections of a balloon, using three small bubbles in a row within a loop of bubbles. Begin by making a pinch twist in each outer bubble in the series. Next, toe-twist each pinch twist to secure them. Ensure each toe-twist and pinch twist have been turned three full turns so they hold. Now pop (break) the center bubble to allow the loop to separate. The pinch twists and toe twists will seal at the end, keeping the balloon from deflating. This is the pinch "pop" series.
Twist a 1-inch bubble, leaving a 2-inch bubble on one side as a spacer. Take the two sections on either side of the small bubble, twisting them together. This will make an ear-shaped bubble. This is good for ears, lips, or to hold another bubble in place. This is the ear twist (pinch twist) maneuver.
Begin with an ear twist. Taking the ear shape, twist it in two, making two smaller bubbles about 1/2 inch or less. These are great for adding detail to faces, hands or feet. This is called the toe-twist (split twist).
Inflate a balloon 18 to 20 inches in length. Twist a 1.5-inch bubble followed by a 5- to 6-inch bubble. Make a loop twist in the larger bubble and tuck the smaller one inside the loop. This makes the rear tire with valve stem.
Measure off two 3-inch sections, making the first into a loop twist and the second into a bubble. These will become the luggage rack/seat back and the body.
Produce five 1-inch bubbles for the handlebars. Taking the middle three bubbles, use the pinch-pop series to separate the handlebars.
Use a small pinch twist to form the headlight and a larger pinch twist to make the gas tank.
Swivel a 2- to 3-inch bubble, making the front fork. Leave a bubble of 6 to 7 inches to make the front tire. From the end of the balloon, twist off a 1.5-inch bubble. Now form a loop twist with the 6- to 7-inch section then use the 1.5-inch bubble to tuck into the loop, forming the front tire, as you did to make the rear tire.
