Have young children make their own simple dandelions out of paper, whether for a school project or as a craft at home to pass some time. They should cut out a stem from green construction paper and the petals from yellow construction paper. They will glue these pieces together. Slightly older youngsters will enjoy crinkling up yellow tissue paper, attaching them to green pipe cleaners and putting them in a small flower pot or cup.
Purchase a dandelion sewing pattern online or at your local craft shop, or try creating your own. You can create a stuffed dandelion doll for a special child, embroider a pillow with dandelions on it for the gardener in your life or create a blanket with a dandelion pattern for a new baby in the family.
Create some home decor with dandelions. String fake dandelions together with yarn or wire and hang them over your front door at the beginning of spring as a garland. For a simple centerpiece, place a thin vase with water and some fresh dandelions on the center of your picnic table. Make it fancier by including dandelion shaped buttons at the bottom of the vase. To create an outdoorsy or woodsy vibe at a wedding or family reunion, remove the stems from dandelions and place them in a small wooden crate on the center of the table.
Bring out your artsy side in the kitchen. You can make dandelion flower cookies, like those found on the Splendid Table website (see Resources). Another idea is to make your favorite sugar cookie recipe and use dandelion cookie cutters to cut out the shapes. Use yellow frosting to decorate the cookie cut-outs. Visit a baking supply store and purchase a dandelion flower cake pan to create a birthday cake for a gardening fanatic or your little girl who loves these flowers.
