Dishtowel Crafts

Dishtowels can be used to clean up messes, but they can also be used as decoration in your kitchen or home. If you're looking for a fun craft project, there are a number of different crafts you can do using dishtowels that are not only fun to make, but will be great to put on display for years to come.
  1. Dishtowel Animals

    • Dishtowel animals are one of the most common crafts made out of dishtowels. Rabbits can be made out of white dishtowels using a little ribbon, and elephants can be created by folding a dishtowel origami-style. Almost any animal can be made out of dishtowels with a little creativity and using ribbon to tie off sections of the towel into parts.

    Bags and Change Purses

    • Dishtowels can be sewn together to create larger bags, or outfitted with a ribbon around the outer rim of the towel to be used as a small change purse or case. Sew together several different colors of dishtowels to create larger unique bags for carrying or protecting larger items. If you decide to create a larger bag, double stitch towels together to ensure the bag stays together when filled with items and doesn't fall apart.

    Decorative Towels

    • Use clothing markers to draw on a dish towel to create a unique look. Children can use a variety of different colored markers to draw on towels and create gifts for family members. If drawing isn't your thing, try writing out a family recipe on a dish towel to preserve the directions in a fun way you can display in your kitchen.

    Coasters

    • Use scissors to cut dish towels into compact sizes and use them as coasters. A coaster is traditionally a 5-inch square, which may mean you can make several coasters out of one towel. If you have enough time, sew batting between two pieces of dishtowel to create a thicker and more effective coaster.

    Dog Toy

    • Braid together three or more dishtowels to create a cloth bone that can used as a dog toy. Use a thinner strip of towel or strong rope to tie off both of the ends. Be careful not to use rubber bands or anything else in the bone that might potentially harm a dog if consumed.
