How to Use a Hectograph Pencil

Tattoos have a rich and diverse history in regions all over the world. The practice of marking the body with ink and tattoos dates back thousands of years. Some early tattoos had religious significance, and other were used simply as fashion. Today, the tattoo industry is thriving with many talented artists and a seemingly endless array of design possibilities. One of the key tools in many tattoo artist's supplies is a hectograph pencil, used for tracing.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape
  • Transfer paper
  • Picture

Instructions

    • 1

      Print out a picture to use for the tattoo.

      Place tracing paper over the picture and tape it to a flat surface.

      Trace the picture with a hectograph pencil starting from the outer edges of the picture to the smaller, more detailed areas until you have traced the entire picture.

      Remove the tape holding the tracing paper to the picture and cut around the image.

      Place the tracing paper onto the part of the body you wish to have tattooed with the traced side down.

      Rub your hand lightly over the tracing paper and gently peel off.
