Begin drawing letters in a freehand style. You can study the styles of various fonts, but the best starting point might be drawing basic, square block-style letters. Start out making pencil drawings on paper and feel free to use your eraser freely and often.
Draw the words or phrases that you want to stretch on a piece of paper with a pencil. Do this only after you have developed a visual consistency among every letter that you intend to use.
Fill in each letter with a black felt tip ink pen. You may want to create just an outline with the ink pen or fill in the entire letter with partial or full shading. Allowing a few white areas of the paper to show through each letter can be a very effective technique for creating attractive letters.
Scan the word or phrases with a scanner and upload the file to your computer. Give the file a name and save it to a document file. Scanning the image at a resolution between 200 and 300 pixels per inch is a good idea, even if you wish to use the graphic design online. A "tif" format will create a good original file that can be converted to "jpg" or "png" if necessary.
Open your scanned image in a Photoshop and reduce the overall file size if necessary.
Click on the "Image" heading at the top of the main page.
Select "Transform" from the dropdown menu.
Select the "Free Transform" command that appears in the side box after you have selected "Transform". A box with a dashed line and intermittent tiny squares sides will surround your image.
Reduce the size of this box until it is slightly larger than the letters or words.
Click one of the tiny boxes at the top, side or bottom of the rectangular square that surrounds the words and drag the side of the box in either a vertical, horizontal or diagonal direction. With this box it is possible to stretch a letter to several times its own size, if desired. Experiment with changing the height and width of your text or individual letters until you get the desired effect.
Click out of the Free Transform command after you have achieved the desired affect.
Print the result on a sheet of computer paper to see how you like the results.
Save your completed transformation in an image file.
