Making Yarn-Covered Hangers

Wire hangers cause some problems when hanging clothes. For example, these hangers may create creases and it is difficult to keep slippery fabrics from slipping off of them. However, a simple solution to this problem is to cover wire hangers with yarn, which can eliminate creasing and provide the traction that some fabrics require for proper hanging. Not only do yarn-covered hangers serve this practical purpose, they also look attractive hanging in your closet.

Instructions

    • 1

Place two wire hangers together. Tape them together at each corner and at the bottom of the twisted section.

    • 2

Put the hangers between your knees. This will keep them in place while you work with the yarn.

    • 3

Tape the end of each ball of yarn at the start of the hook with fabric or cellophane tape. Place one ball on each side of the hanger.

    • 4

Wrap one of the balls of yarn under the hangers and pull it back through the loop created by the yarn, making a tidy knot around the wire. Repeat with the ball of yarn on the other side of hanger.

    • 5

Repeat this, until the entire wire hanger is covered with knots of yarn, alternating sides with each knot.

    • 6

Cut off the excess yarn with a pair of scissors.
