A paper mâché mask may be hung on the wall as decoration or worn for a Halloween or masquerade party. For a wall mask, a balloon will suffice as a mold. If the mask needs eye and nose holes, use a milk gallon or similar plastic jug. Match the holes in the jug to the symmetry of your face. Fangs may be inserted after the mask is completely dry by using pointy objects, such as plastic fork prongs. Eyes may be made out of plastic jewels or gem-like rocks and fastened from inside the mask. Consider straw, yarn and other materials to add a decorative flair to the painted mask.
When creating scratchboard art, use vampire colors like reds, violets, yellows and dark blues to contrast shiny black. Sketch a draft of the vampire scene on paper before etching into the scratchboard. Vampires have been portrayed in a multitude of literature, film and art. You may want to illustrate a scene from your favorite tale, such as Bram Stoker's "Dracula" or "Nosferatu." The scratchboard art may be framed by decorating a plain wooden frame or creating a framed edge around the scratchboard with cutout magazine picture fragments of faces and scary images.
Painting a vampire scene atop an old mirror will create a ghostlike, creepy feeling. Use black glass paint to cover most of the mirror, leaving clear spots so spectators can see their reflection through various parts of the mirror. Once dry, paint red and yellow vampire eyes, stark white fangs and other night images throughout the mirror. Create a stained glass look by affixing colored glass fragments throughout the scene or a mock frame around the edges.
Vlad Dracula was an aristocrat who was known as The Impaler because he enjoyed impaling his enemies on stakes. An interesting twist for an art project would be to create a clay vampire head impaled on a wooden base. Self-hardening or potter's sculpting clay does not require a kiln and is easy to mold with your fingers. Whether you decide to paint or leave the sculpture natural, make sure to apply several coats of varnish to preserve your sculpture.
