How to Pixelate Prints

Most of the time that pixelation occurs in a digital photograph, it is an undesired effect created when trying to blow up a photograph to a larger size than the quality allows. This disintegration can be prominent in pictures taken with older or cheap cameras. Nonetheless, many image manipulation programs have tools to add pixelation to a picture to create a desirable special effect.

Instructions

    • 1

Scan the photo with a scanner at a high resolution (200 pixels per inch or more).

    • 2

Convert the file to the JPG format as you save it in the Documents section of your computer.

    • 3

Open the file in a photo manipulation program.

    • 4

Resize the image to a desirable height and width and save the image again.

    • 5

Go to Filters heading and click "Pixelate," which opens a drop-down menu. Select the "Mosaic" option. This should open a Mosaic window.

    • 6

Move the slider dial to the right or left until you reach the desired number setting. A good rule of thumb is to keep the number low, around 20 percent. Adjust the plus and minus marks until the percentage reads 100 percent.

    • 7

      Click "OK."

    • 8

      Print the image.
