How to Estimate a Rotoscoping Job

Rotoscoping is a type of photographic effect work that is done by photographers or graphic designers. This photographic effect turns standard color or black and white photos into cartoon images using specialty software. If you are a photographer or graphic designer, you will be asked for price quotes for doing rotoscoping-effect work. It is your responsibility to put together a quote for the individual requesting the work that is fair and that will still make you a profit.

Instructions

    • 1

Ask the individual requesting the quote how many photos they wish to be rotoscoped and what form they are in, whether that is digital or prints. If the photos are in print form, the work will take more time because you will have to scan the pictures.

    • 2

Ask the individual the dimensions of the photos they wish to be rotoscoped. The larger the photo, the more time it will take to edit.

    • 3

Ask the individual the subject of the photographs. The more detailed the pictures, the longer it will take to edit. Having the pictures to physically look at will allow you to give the individual the most accurate estimated quote.

    • 4

Use the information you collected to calculate how long it will take you to edit the photographs. Using this time estimate, you can calculate the estimated quote. Keep in mind that, as of publication date, the average photographer makes $16 an hour.
