How to Glaze With Tinted Polyurethane
Glazing with tinted polyurethane gives your project a beautiful glossy finish, as well as a protective coating to protect against chipping and scratches. Polyurethane is typically clear, but can be tinted almost any color you desire. You can have your polyurethane tinted at the store with universal tints that require much less work on your part, or you can tint the polyurethane yourself by mixing one quart paint with one gallon of the polyurethane glaze then stirring until combined. In addition, some manufacturers such as Minwax now offer pre-tinted polyurethane resins.

1
Set up your project outside, or in a well-ventilated area. Open all windows and doors if working indoors.
-
2
Dip a rag into your tinted polyurethane and wipe onto the surface of the object. Be sure to cover all corners, edges and seams well but do not let the glaze pool in these areas. If pooling occurs, wipe it away with a small paint brush.
