Write out the word or message with paper and pencil. Write it in the way that you want to see it in rope.
Make pencil dots on the top and bottom points of all the letters. The word "JOY," for example, would have seven dots, with one on the top and bottom of each letter, and two at the top of the "Y" because it has two points. These dots will be the guide to write with rope from your template.
Measure the distance between the dots on each letter with a ruler. Write this measurement down next to your letters. To get the correct proportions of your letters for your rope writing, multiply the original measurement by 300 to 500 times the size of the original letter template, depending on how big you want the rope letters to be.
Write with rope by measuring the newly calculated distance for the letters on the area you want to write with rope. Mark where the letters will go using a pencil dot. These dots will be where you use a hammer and nails to hang or secure the rope into place so that it creates a sequence of letters.
