How to Make Framing Posters

Decorating with posters can be upgraded to stylish art if the posters are upgraded to a canvas background. Framed canvas posters can combine a casual, pop-art style with the sophisticated and mature look of framed art. Transferring an image from a poster to a canvas can be completed in a matter of hours.

Instructions

    • 1

Photocopy a poster image in either color or black and white as a mirror image of the original. A laser photocopy machine will work best.

    • 2

Apply gel medium to the canvas using a paintbrush.

    • 3

Adhere your image face down onto the gel medium. Use a brayer or other device that can roll air bubbles out of the paper.

    • 4

Allow the gel medium to dry completely. Depending on the size of your image, this can take from an hour to overnight.

    • 5

Check to see if the gel medium has dried thoroughly. If so, apply water to the paper and scrape it off with your fingernail until you remove all the original paper from the photocopy.

    • 6

The image from your photocopy will be left behind on the canvas. You can further embellish this canvas with paint or other transferred images to create a collage, or you can place it directly in a frame for display.
