How Do You Clean a Hand Web Piercing?

Hand web piercings go through the webbing between your fingers, most frequently between the thumb and forefinger. Because they are considered a surface piercing, hand web piercings are more prone to rejection than earlobes, nostrils and many other common body piercings. Added to the challenges of healing a hand web piercing is the fact that your hands are constantly in use and can come into contact with more bacteria than other parts of your body.

Instructions

    • 1

Mix a pinch of iodine-free sea salt, about 1/8 tsp., into a clean coffee mug filled with boiling water. Allow the water to cool until it is comfortably warm.

    • 2

Soak your hand in the warm salt water for 10 minutes. Repeat the process twice a day, using a clean coffee mug each time. Pour the water into a bowl if it is easier to soak your hand that way.

    • 3

Wash your hands with antimicrobial soap immediately after soaking and anytime they get dirty. Lather your hands well with a pea-sized amount of soap and rinse them with warm water.

    • 4

Dry your hands with a fresh paper towel after every wash.

    • 5

Repeat the salt water soaks for at least eight weeks. Continue to wash your hands with antimicrobial soap for the life of the piercing.
