How to Make an Embroidery Mockup

An instrumental part of creating an embroidery design is creating the mockup. A mockup, a term usually reserved for graphic design and manufacturing industries, is usually a sketch or drawing of the embroidery concept. If you run an embroidery business, this allows you to present multiple concepts to a client before committing to the final design. On the other hand, if you are an embroidery hobbyist, mockups allow you to test multiple designs before settling on a single design.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine the concept or motif you want to use in your design. Some common motifs include flowers, leaves, vines, birds and so on.

    • 2

Measure the diameter of the design before you create it. Most embroidered designs are 5 inches by 8 inches. Measure and mark out the diameter measurements on a sheet of drawing paper.

    • 3

Sketch out the basic elements of your design on the drawing paper with some drafting pencils. This includes the embroidery design's motif as well as any additional art or typography. This may take several tries before you're satisfied with the sketch.

Color the embroidery mockup with your choice of either colored pencils or professional art markers.
