Attach the metal pencil ledge to the top of your drafting table. You can purchase a pencil ledge from any drafting store. The storage unit slips over the top of your drafting table and has a ledge to hold pencils, markers and other drawing tools.
Secure your drafting tool instrument tray to the bottom of the drafting table. The tray can be secured with anywhere from two to three screws at the bottom of the tray table. Create a pilot hole using a small 1/16-inch drill bit. Hold the tray in place and screw the tray onto the drafting table using a screwdriver. Most units will require the use of a Phillips screwdriver.
Apply two-sided tape to the table for a quick method of securing your items. The double-sided tape can be placed in a position where it is most convenient and will hold most items in place. To ensure that you don't damage the drafting table, cover the unit with a sheet of bulletin board paper. This way, you can throw away the paper when you are finished drafting and not have to worry about tape sticking to your table.
