How to Draw With Transfer Paper

Artists sometimes find it necessary to create duplicates of their work. A friend may request a copy or perhaps an artist wants to test another medium on the work. There are several methods to transfer a drawing or painting. The cheapest and easiest way is with transfer paper.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather your supplies so you will have everything handy. Do your project on a flat surface where there is plenty of light.

    • 2

Take your blank paper and use a low-tack tape or a clamp to secure it to your work surface. Place your graphite or transfer paper over the blank paper. Be sure the dark side of the graphite is down. Next, place your original image on top.

    • 3

Secure your layers together with a low-tack tape that won't lift or use clamps to attach all layers to your work surface. You'll need to keep all the layers together. If you move them before you're finished they won't line up properly.

    • 4

Trace around your image just following the lines. Don't try to add value in this step. Finish transferring your image by focusing on the details. Before you lift your layers completely, take a peek at the new image to make sure everything you need has been transferred.

    • 5

Erase you pencil marks from the original and separate your three layers. Now you have a new piece to pass on to a friend or apply a new medium to.
