Collage Projects With Tissue Paper

Whether you consider yourself a crafty and seasoned do-it-yourself type or are just starting out exploring your creative side, a great place to start is with tissue paper. Tissue paper is easily glued to almost any surface with white school glue, starch mixed with water to form a paste or a glue stick and serves as a great backdrop to show off photos, collected snippets of papers and other items.
  1. Family Tree

    • Put a colorful spin on a typical family tree by turning it into a tissue paper collage. After researching the family history, print out pictures of as many family members as possible. Draw pictures of family members who don't have photos or who were far back in the ancestry. Each "line" of the family tree gets its own tissue paper color; glue the photo to the paper, then cut around it, leaving a frame of color behind the photo. Once all of the family photos have been glued to colored tissue, arrange them in the tree on a large piece of poster board for a colorful representation of your family.

    Pet Collage

    • Most pet owners have reams of pictures of their furry or scaly friends either in boxes or on the computer. Create a cool storage container for your pet supplies by making a colored collage of the photos. Find a sturdy cardboard box, plastic container or crate, then cover both the outside and inside with colorful tissue paper. Consider where the box will go -- match the color scheme of the room or choose a few favorite colors. Once the tissue paper has dried, glue on pictures of your pet(s) to the outside of the box, letting the tissue paper colors peek out between the photos for a cool, creative look. Once the photos have dried, fill the box with the pet's toys, food or other supplies to neaten up the area.

    Vacation Memories

    • If you're landlocked or in a northern state dreaming of the beach, creating a vacation memory box can be a fun project to remind you of your trip. Gather a shoe box and bits of items saved from previous trips such as plane tickets, park entrance stubs, hotel receipts, shells and cocktail umbrellas, and some beige and blue tissue paper. Cover the outside of the shoe box with the beige paper; when dry, glue the inside of the box with the blue paper. Once dry, glue various items from the vacation to the outside or top of the box. For items you don't want to get gluey or chance ripping, store in the box, which you can go through when you need a virtual vacation.
