Sand the cedar wood with 100 grit sandpaper unit it is smooth to the touch. Wipe with a damp rag and allow the wood to dry.
Cut out the magazine photo or print your own image on plain paper; the thinner the paper the better. Glossy photo paper will not work.
Spread caulk evenly across the image. Work it with gloved hand or pallet knife until you achieve an even layer. Make sure the are no dry spots.
Lay the image face down on the wood and position it evenly.
Rub the back of the image with a clean hand to adhere it to the wood. Take time to go over the entire surface.
Continue to rub the back of the paper with the back of a spoon. Use firm pressure and be thorough.
Allow the transfer to dry for 24 hours.
Wet the back of the image with a sponge and allow the water to absorb. Gently rub the paper with your fingers until it begins to peel off. Start in the center and work toward the edges. As the paper peels away, the image will begin to show.
Continue to moisten and rub off the paper until you are satisfied with the clarity of the image. Be careful not to go too far and rub off the image itself.
Allow to dry and brush on clear varnish or matte acrylic medium if desired.
