Transfer your image onto acrylic image transfer paper. Hand-draw an image on the paper using waterproof ink. Print the image from a computer using a laser printer. As an alternative, you can photocopy an image from a magazine, newspaper or book onto the transfer paper.
Paint an even coat of acrylic gloss medium over the front of the image transfer paper and allow drying for about 30 minutes.
Decide on the placement of your image on the canvas.
Paint a layer of acrylic gloss medium on the canvas. Paint an even coat that is not too thin or too thick on the transfer paper. A thin layer will dry too quickly and make the paper tear easily; a thick coat will make the surface too slippery.
Place the image transfer paper, with the image facing down, onto the canvas. Make sure to place the paper while the acrylic gloss medium is still wet. Allow drying for about 30 minutes.
Wipe a wet sponge over the image. Wrap a cotton cloth around your pointer finger, and then rub over the image. This will remove the transfer paper but leave the image imprinted on the canvas. Keep wetting the transfer paper with the sponge and wiping to remove all of the excess.
