Place a ruler on the paper at an angle to the left of the paper. Place the tip of the pencil against the ruler where you want the point of the "V" to be.
Hold the ruler down firmly with one hand. Apply pressure and move the pencil along the side of the ruler to the desired length of the "V."
Place a ruler on the paper at an angle to the right of the paper. Place the tip of the pencil against the ruler at the point of the "V."
Hold the ruler down firmly with one hand. Apply pressure and move the pencil along the side of the ruler to a length that is equal to the left line of the "V."
Place a circle, oval or French curve template on the paper. Place the tip of the pencil against the template where you want the curve to start.
Hold the template down firmly with one hand. Apply pressure and move the pencil along the side of the template to the desired length of the curve.
Repeat the process to add more curves. Change the direction of the curve by using the other side of the circle or by turning over the French curve template.
Secure the pencil in the pencil fastener of the compass so the compass and the pencil are even when placed on the paper.
Adjust the angle of the compass as desired for the span of the curve. Place the sharp end of a compass down firmly on the paper and the pencil point at the beginning of curve.
Hold the paper down firmly with one hand and hold the compass at the top. Apply pressure and move the compass to a draw a curve.
