Step-by-Step On How to Draw a Red Wolf

The Red Wolf is on the endangered list in parts of the United States. Interbreeding with coyotes and domestic dogs has helped contribute to its decline. During the 1970's the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service initiated a program to help bring the Red Wolf back. They captured Red Wolves and then released them on islands for natural mating. When their population grew they then introduced the wolves to other areas such as Alligator River National Wildlife refuge in North Carolina and the Smoky Mountains National park in Tennessee.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a picture of a Red Wolf as reference and draw a line that represents the wolf's backbone. For example, if the wolf is sitting the line would be vertical and if the wolf is standing the line would be horizontal.

    • 2

Using a pencil, lightly draw circles to represent the head and feet. Draw lines to represent the tail and legs.

    • 3

Sketch in the fullness of the body around lines, adding triangular shapes for the ears and an oval shape for the nose and eyes. Modify as necessary using an eraser.

    • 4

Sketch in details such as teeth, hair, eyelids and nails. Makes adjustments as necessary by erasing and redrawing lines.

    • 5

Ink in the drawing by carefully drawing over the lines with a pen or marker. Erase all pencil marks.
