Cut a length of the wooden battening. This should be of equal length to the width of your completed arch canvas. Lay the length of battening on the work desk in front of you.
Pick up the springy wooden board. Hold the board with the flat side toward you and line the left edge of the board up with the left edge of the wooden battening. Move the board so it is at a right angle to the length of battening, then bend the springy board until the board touches the other end of the battening. Adjust the board until it makes a satisfactory arch above the straight edge of the battening.
Make a mark in pen on the edge of the wooden board at the position where the board reaches the edge of the battening. Using this mark as a guide, cut a strip of the board the same width as the battening. Return the left edge of the strip to its position at the left end of the battening and hammer two tacks in to keep the two pieces of wood in place.
Lay the wooden battening across the arch made by the springy board and perpendicular to the straight edge. Mark on the battening the cuts that need to be made to make the battening fit flush between the inside of the arch and the inside of the straight edge. Use the jigsaw to cut four lengths of battening that fit in this way and tack them into place. This creates a stronger frame for the canvas.
Stretch the canvas across the frame and pull it taut. Staple the straight edge of the canvas into place, then pull the rest of the canvas taut with a pair of pliers. Staple the edge of the canvas to the battening and to the wooden board to secure it. The arched canvas is now complete.
