The invention of Scotch tape itself is a bit more complicated:
* 1925: A product similar to Scotch tape, but using a less effective adhesive, was introduced by the Johnson & Johnson company.
* 1930: Richard Drew's cellophane tape was launched, and it quickly became popular for its superior adhesive and versatility.
* 1935: 3M introduced its first version of Scotch tape, which featured a new, more durable adhesive made from cellulose acetate. This version became the iconic "Scotch tape" we know today.
So, while Richard Drew's invention of cellophane tape was a crucial step in the development of what we now call Scotch tape, he did not actually invent the product itself.
