How to Render With Art Markers

Art markers are used for storyboards and fashion and are still used throughout the design industries. There is a vast array of subject matter that can be rendered realistically onto paper with professional markers. A wide range of colors allows the artist to become the printer of his imagination; using high, mid and low tones to blend objects seamlessly makes the coloring look smooth and vibrant.

Instructions

    • 1

On Bristol vellum or manga paper, sketch out your line art lightly with the pencil using as much or as little detail as you are comfortable with.

    • 2

Fill in the larger areas of your art, such as skin, clothing or hair, using a marker a shade or two lighter than you would like. When you are finished, choose a color one or two shades darker than each area you just colored. Separately outline within the lines about two inches at a time; take your colorless blender and blend the tones so that there are no visible lines, then repeat with each section until your entire drawing is filled in. Erase pencil lines you don't need as you continue.

    • 3

Create depth and shine by using darker and lighter markers within three shades of the original and leaving reflective glints white. Blend using the lightest colored marker for that section and then use a colorless blender to blend into the blank spaces.

    • 4

Use the Micron pen to outline your subject and make any important features stand out.

    • 5

      Erase any visible pencil marks.
