Tips on Grace Quilting

Grace quilting is when you stitch a quilt together on a Grace Quilting Machine. A Grace Quilting Machine is a convenient tool that allows a stitcher to maneuver the fabric on the sewing machine while stitching. These machines roll the quilt up on part of the machine until the quilter is ready to start sewing the next section of the quilt. Grace quilting is a standard practice, but there are some tips that makes the process easier to manage.
  1. Know What You're Sewing

    • Before you start grace quilting, be sure you understand what you'll be sewing. You can sew a basic fabric quilt or more advanced quilts that contain garments, lace and other heavy duty items. Make a list of the features you may need for your quilting project. If you're planning on adding accessories to your quilt, for instance, make sure you buy extra thread because your automatic thread cutter will be busy.

Adjust the Machine and Your Body

    • Your quilt and Grace Machine should be at waist level so you can be comfortable while sewing, and your elbows should be close to your body at a 90-degree angle. The position of your body is important because a crooked body can produce crooked quilt stitching.

    Be Creative

    • Part of the attraction of a quilt is the visual complexity. When you are grace quilting, pay attention to the pattern of your quilt. You can create unique designs by combining and repeating patterns as you sew. The speed control button on your Grace Machine allows you to experiment with repetition on your quilt depending on how fast or slow you speed dial is set.

    Test Fabrics

    • You will need to decide on a type of fabric for your quilt. Before you do so, test stitch on several types of fabric. You can even test on leather strips and layers of denim. Stitch over the cut edge of your material to see how your machine handles it. See how well your Grace Machines goes over seams and even buttonholes.
