One way to make cards is to use pressed flowers and leaves found in your own backyard. Pick flowers and insert them between the pages of a heavy book along with a facial tissue to absorb moisture. Ensure that the petals are spread and allow to dry for several weeks.
According to Better Homes and Gardens, it is best to attach the pressed flowers onto your card using glue dots or adhesive dots instead of regular glue, as these dots bond and stick the moment they are applied. Regular glue will take a minute or so to dry, and some of the moisture from the glue can be absorbed by the petals, causing discoloration.
You can also use small trinkets and other objects found in your own home. Slip beads like those from an old necklace or bracelet onto small safety pins. Arrange your safety pins into the shape of a flower, and use a small button at the center to hide where the ends of the pins are glued together. Add buttons, ribbons and other small objects.
An option for people who are new to cardmaking or not that into arts and crafts is to download and print free card patterns or templates. Some websites require that you register for a free account.
