How do you put a deck pad on skimboard?

Here's how to put a deck pad on a skimboard, along with some tips:

Materials:

* Deck Pad: Choose a pad with the right size and style for your board.

* 3M Adhesive: The most common and reliable adhesive for deck pads.

* Scissors or Utility Knife: To trim the pad to size.

* Ruler: To measure and mark the pad.

* Cleaning Supplies: Isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol, paper towels.

Steps:

1. Clean the Board: Thoroughly clean your skimboard's surface with isopropyl alcohol or rubbing alcohol to remove dirt, wax, or any other residue. Let it dry completely.

2. Measure and Cut:

* Pre-cut Pads: If you're using a pre-cut pad, skip this step.

* Custom-cut Pads: Measure the area you want to cover on your board. Most pads are designed to cover the tail area, leaving room for the front foot. Mark the pad with a pencil, ruler, and scissors or a utility knife to cut the pad to size.

3. Peel & Stick:

* Pre-cut Pads: Remove the backing from the adhesive side of the pad and carefully position it on the board where you want it.

* Custom-cut Pads: Apply 3M adhesive to the back of the cut pad, leaving about half an inch of space around the edges (this will help prevent the pad from lifting). Align the pad on the board and press firmly.

4. Press and Smooth:

* Once the pad is in place, use a firm object like a credit card or a smooth piece of wood to press down firmly on the entire pad. This will ensure good adhesion.

5. Secure (Optional): If you want extra security, you can use a few drops of 3M Super 77 spray adhesive around the edges of the pad. This will help keep it in place.

Tips:

* Consider the environment: If you're skimboarding in cold water, opt for a thicker pad for extra warmth and comfort.

* Placement: Place the pad on the tail area where you'll be standing. It's common to have a "kicktail" area of the board left uncovered.

* Don't Overlap: Avoid overlapping the pad with other components on the board, like the tail.

* Clean the Adhesive: If you get adhesive on the board, clean it immediately with rubbing alcohol.

Additional Information:

* Deck Pad Removal: If you need to remove the deck pad, you can use a hairdryer to soften the adhesive. Gently pry the pad off with a scraper or a flathead screwdriver.

* Alternatives: Some skimboarders prefer to use grip tape instead of a full deck pad. This provides good grip but might be less comfortable than a pad.

Enjoy! With your new deck pad installed, you'll be ready to shred the waves and enjoy the thrill of skimboarding.
